How We Can Help

Home-Start Newry & Mourne provides free, confidential support to families with at least one child under five years old.

We understand that parenting isn't always easy. Whether you're feeling isolated, struggling with your mental health, dealing with a difficult situation, or just need some extra support, we're here to help. Our trained volunteers visit families in their own homes, offering practical help and emotional support.

Who We Support

We work with families facing a wide range of challenges. You might benefit from our support if you are:

Feeling Isolated

Perhaps you've recently moved to the area, don't have family nearby, or just feel lonely at home with young children.

Struggling with Mental Health

Postnatal depression, anxiety, or other mental health challenges can make parenting harder. We provide a listening ear.

Dealing with Illness

Whether it's your own health or a family member's, illness can put extra strain on family life.

Experiencing Bereavement

Grieving while caring for young children is incredibly difficult. We can provide compassionate support.

Having Multiple Births

Twins, triplets, or more? The extra demands can be overwhelming. An extra pair of hands can make all the difference.

Facing Daily Challenges

Sometimes the everyday pressures of parenting can feel too much. There's no wrong reason to ask for help.

What to Expect

Our support is tailored to your family's unique needs. Here's how it works:

  • A coordinator will visit you at home to understand your needs
  • You'll be matched with a trained volunteer
  • Your volunteer visits weekly, usually for 2-3 hours
  • Support is completely free and confidential
  • There's no time limit—support continues as long as you need it
  • You're always in control of what help you receive

Our volunteers won't judge you or tell you what to do. They're there to support you in whatever way helps your family most.
