Our family groups are a warm, welcoming space where parents and young children can come together, have fun, and build friendships. If you’ve been feeling isolated or just want to get out of the house and meet other parents who understand what you’re going through, our groups are for you.

Where and When
We run weekly family groups in four locations across the area: Annalong, Warrenpoint, Kilkeel, and Newry. Each group is staffed by our experienced team and supported by trained volunteers.
Last year we ran 12 family group sessions every week across the area, welcoming hundreds of families and their children.
What Happens at a Group?

Every session is different, but you can expect a mix of play-based activities for children, time to chat with other parents over a cuppa, and a healthy snack for the little ones. Activities are chosen so that you can continue them at home without spending a lot.
We encourage outdoor play whenever we can — bubbles, water play, chalk painting, planting, and games. Inside, children enjoy crafts, songs, stories, and sensory activities. Every child is treated as an individual, with as much one-to-one attention as they need.
Our groups also welcome guest speakers — from midwives to dentists to local services — who can share advice and answer your questions.
Why Come Along?
Parents who attend our groups tell us that the chance to connect with others in similar situations makes a real difference. Our groups help to:
- Reduce feelings of stress and isolation
- Build your confidence as a parent
- Give your children a chance to play, make friends, and develop social and language skills
- Support smoother transitions to nursery or school
- Connect you with other local services and support

Intergenerational Fun
We’re proud of our intergenerational work with local care homes in Kilkeel and Newry. Our families visit care facilities where the children sing songs and rhymes with the residents — it’s a joyful experience for everyone.
Celebrating Together
We love celebrating together. Santa visits at Christmas with gifts for every child, the Easter Bunny calls in spring, and we mark birthdays, festivals and special occasions throughout the year.

“Home-Start is a valuable service in our community and many of the families in my caseload have reported very positive things about attending Home-Start and about how approachable and helpful the staff are.”
